Michelle again sits on the bench and
waits for a moment. A fairy fades into visibility then becomes human.
“Mom,” said Michelle, “Thank-you
again for your help. It’s just what I needed.”
“I’m glad, my child,” said Mary, “We
better get home so you can’t get ready to do some slaying tonight.”
“Mom,” said Michelle, “You do know
I’m going to have to maintain a cover and summon those in my clan, right?”
“Yes,” said Mary, “you do realize
that doing this may make your other half stronger and you might have to fight
her in your mind again.”
“Yes,” said Michelle, “I’m aware of
that. But what choice do I have? Victoria thinks she won and so I have to make
her think I am her.”
“And summoning your clan is the
first act that proves that you are her?” asked Mary.
“That’s right,” said Michelle, “But
don’t worry. As soon as her guards show up to defend my clan against slayers
they themselves will be slayed. Now I just need to find somewhere to house my
vampires because once my clan is formed it needs to stay together.”
“Although, I never knew why,” said
Mary, “But there is a cave underneath our house.”
“What?” asked Michelle, “Then that
is perfect. Will you show it to me now?”
“Well I can’t,” said Mary, “It’s
sealed shut containing something in there you are not going to like.”
“What’s inside it?” asked Michelle.
“Statues of people who once had your
blood in them,” said Mary, “Stone statues.”
“Wait you turned people who had my
blood in them into stone statues?” asked Michelle, “Why?”
“So they wouldn’t be killed and
become vampires thus making your queen half stronger,” explained Mary, “I
placed the seal on it so no one can ever enter it and free them from this spell.”
“Don’t people die if they are stone
statues for a very long time?” asked Michelle.
“Yes, they do,” said Mary, “All it
takes is 24 hours.”
“And these stone statues in my
cave?” asked Michelle, “how long have they been this way?”
“For a couple of months,” said Mary.
“Mom!” said Michelle, “those people
may not have died until they were old. Now if someone were to free them from
that spell they would come back as vampires! You doomed them to be
blood-sucking monsters for all eternity!”
“Michelle!” yelled Mary, “quiet
down! You don’t have to yell out at me in public like this.”
“I’m sorry,” said Michelle, “but you
are guilty of killing innocent people.”
“Well they aren’t dead until the
spell is reverse,” said Mary, “and as I said before there is a seal on the
entrance of the door that can’t be broken by any fairy except by the queen.”
“Which is you, mom!” said Michelle.
“Well,” said Mary, “actually no I
can’t break the spell. The rule is once a queen seals something she can’t ever
break it. But it can however be broken by the next queen.”
“Can something stronger than fairy
dust break the spell?” asked Michelle, “Let’s say witchcraft perhaps?”
“Yes,” said Mary, “Witchcraft can be
used to break the spell but doing so will definitely draw in a genie maker.”
“Which is exactly what I want,” said
Michelle, “by the way, how come no genie maker hasn’t shown up to make me a
genie yet?”
“I guess it is because you are part
vampire queen and part vampire slayer,” said Mary, “Genie makers know that
vampire slayers are endowed with magical power and they haven’t come after you
because you are not only a slayer but a descendant of Van Helsing.”
“I see,” said Michelle, “please take
me to the location the cave underneath our house.”
“Okay,” said Mary.
“What just happen?” asked Queen
Michelle, “I was supposed to win this fight and I was supposed to take over the
body and fulfill her destiny as the Vampire Queen. How did she gain the
advantage so quickly? Now I am nothing more than a small part of her.
Literally.”
A moment of silence.
“Wait a minute,” said Queen
Michelle, “Whether she wants to admit it or not, we are one and the same and if
she can access magic, then so can I.”
She waives her hand clockwise one
time and touches the lock to the cage.
“Unlock,” she commands and the lock
unlocks.
She opens the cage door and exits
it.
She then repeats the process to make
herself grow to normal size.
As they approach the cave, Michelle
suddenly goes into a frozen trance. Mary immediately notices.
“Michelle, what’s wrong?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” said Michelle, “I
suddenly can’t move.”
“Nice try, slayer,” said a voice
coming from Michelle’s mouth, “I told you becoming a vampire queen was your
true destiny and I meant it. I will not release your body from this frozen
spell until you agree to embrace this part of your destiny.”
“Mommy,” said Michelle, “help!”
Mary immediately touches the gem in
her crown and wishes to become the queen of the fairies and flies over her
granddaughter and sprinkles dust on her head.
“Regain your mobility,” she
commands.
Nothing happens.
“Try all you want,” said the voice,
“I will not release her from this frozen state until she agrees to become Queen
of the Vampires full time.”
“Don’t do it Michelle,” said Mary,
“You are stronger than her. You’ve proven it already. You can take back control
over your body.”
“Thanks Mom,” said Michelle, who
closes her eyes and concentrates.
Inside
Michelle’s Mind…
“Well,” said Michelle, “I guess
you’ve figured it out that you can also access my magic.”
“Yes,” said the voice, “And now that
I have the control over you that I want all you have to do is shake my hand and
we will merge into one personality and you want ever have to worry about me
pestering you in your mind again.”
She offers her hand to Michelle.
“I don’t think so,” said Michelle,
“I do not want to be a Vampire Queen! I want to be a Vampire Slayer!”
“But didn’t you convince Victoria
that it was me that had control?” asked the voice.
“Yes, but…,” said Michelle.
“And are you not planning on calling
the clan to join you in order to maintain that cover?” asked the voice.
“Yes, but…,” said Michelle.
“Do you even know how to call your
clan to join you?” asked the voice.
“No,” said Michelle.
“Well I do,” said the queen, “If you
merge with me then you too will know how to call your clan.”
“I admit I don’t know how to call
the clan but I don’t need you in order to do it,” said Michelle, “As long as
you and I are separate then I can maintain my destiny of being a slayer. If we
merge then that destiny might become lost.”
“I give you my word that you can
continue slaying vampires after we merge as long as they don’t belong to our
clan,” said the voice.
“I’m sorry,” said Michelle, “but the
answer is still no.”
“Then you leave me no choice,” said
the voice.
She waves her hand one time and
throws the circle of swirly lights to Michelle’s mental image and says, “Turn
to stone.”
Instantly, Michelle’s mental image
began to turn to stone.
“What’s going on?” asked Michelle,
“I’m turning to stone. How are you able to do this to me?”
“You won’t summit to what I want so
I have to force it out of you,” said the voice.
“But won’t turning my mental image
into stone turn my body to stone?” asked Michelle.
“I guess you will never find out,”
said the voice, “unless you change your mind. You have until your mouth has
turned to stone to answer me.”
By this time the spell had reach
Michelle’s mental image’s neck.
“What if instead of a merger we have
a partnership,” said Michelle, “you stand by my side and help me when I need to
be the queen but when I need to be the slayer I will be in control.”
“I can accept that,” said the voice
who then reverses the spell.
