Christian Themes in Classic Shows Part 4

Well I promise Part 4 would be today so here it is. Well there are still two more shows from NBC's gallery that I haven't talked about. In fact I forgot about them until last night. They are ALF and Gimme a Break. So I will talk about them first.

ALF is an acronym for Alien Life Form. He comes from the planet  Melmack and lives with a family consisting of a man and his wife and two kids. The comedy from the show comes from him trying to learn to live on Earth while the family tries to hide him from the world. I am going to stop calling anything remotely Christian related in these shows as Christian themed because that isn't what it is. Christian References is a better term but the title of this series will remain Christian Themes in Classic Shows. Okay the only reference that I remember from ALF is when he tries to name Santa's 8 reindeer and calls out the four gospels. He also names Donald Duck's three nephews. And that was it. I stop watching the show during the last season. My family lost interest in it.

OK, Gimme a Break starred Neil Carter as a woman who was an inspiring singer. She moves in to care for the four daughters of her best friend when she suddenly dies and lives with them and their father who is the chief of police. The only Christian references in this show is they occasionally mention God and that is about it. I did grow up thinking the theme said "The game is the Bible and so bring a revival" but I later learned that it said "The game is survival so bring my arrival." And about the third season the song changed completely. And I should probably also note that the actor playing the dad dies in real life so they change things in the show. Oh and for those of you who don't know this but Joey Lawrence got his start in this show and his younger brother does too. And I should also mention that Neil Carter passed away a few years back. And this is sad too until I heard that she became a Jew before she died. Apparently she was raised Catholic. She marries a Jew and becomes one herself then becomes a born-again Christian but recants that to become a Jew again. I have nothing against the Jews but you can only get to Heaven through Jesus Christ. So, I don't know where she is right now.

Moving on I promised you some shows from CBS and ABC so that is what I am going to do. First up is Perfect Strangers.

This is a show was about two cousins living together in Chicago but they come from two completely different worlds. They get along just great (Next week's entry will consist of a very popular show that spun off of this one called Family Matters and it does indeed have Christian reverences in it). There weren't that many references to Christianity in this show but it was still fun to watch. Well that is all for this week.
