Swimming pool…[U1]
“Okay,” said Michelle, “I have had
enough fun with you for now. You can stop clucking now.”
She stops and looks at Michelle.
“You are the weirdest girl I have
ever known,” said Athena, “I don’t know how you are controlling me but I will
find out and when I do you will not like what I do for revenge. Now if I may be
excuse, I have to go change into my swimsuit before the…”
The bell ending class rings.
“Bell rings,” said Athena.
She heads for the locker room. On
the way Michelle tries something new.
“Walk
into wall,” she thinks to herself believing her thoughts can also be
transmitted to Athena to control her every move.
And sure enough Athena walks into a
wall.
“Ouch,” she says before moving over
and walking into the locker room.
“What is going on?” asked Athena as
she removed her cheerleader outfit, “How is that freak able to control my
every move?”
She puts on another cheerleader
outfit she had in her assigned locker for emergencies and then goes to put her
cheerleader outfit in the wash. She then heads for the gym. When she arrives
she sees the other members of the cheerleading squad in her previous uniform
and a bunch of girls in t-shirts and shorts standing before them.
“Rats,” said Athena, “cheerleading
tryouts are today during 7th period. I can’t allow the other girls
see me not in the same cheerleading outfit. They’ll laugh at me.”
She thought about it for a moment.
“Wait a minute,” she said, “I’m the
head cheerleader. I can just tell them that I’m in a different outfit to
signify my role as leader of the group. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do.”
She walks into the gym. And she
joins her fellow cheerleaders in a line facing a group of hopefuls. She stands
in the middle so she is who they see.
“Welcome,” she said.
All the cheerleaders and hopefuls
laugh at Athena for not being in the same uniform.
“Don’t laugh,” she commanded, “I’m the
head-cheerleader and I can be in a separate uniform if I so choose to signify
that.”
“Athena,” said one of the seven
grade hopefuls, “Didn’t you jump into the pool last period in your cheerleading
outfit?”
“Where did you hear that?” asked
Athena.
“One of the students in your gym
class told me,” said the girl.
“And what is her name?” asked
Athena.
“I think it was Michelle,” said the
girl, “She told me to tell you to stand on your hands and act like a monkey.”
Immediately, Athena got upside down
on her hands and began to act like a monkey causing the other girls to burst
out laughing. Watching from the doors to the gym was Michelle.
“So,
my power to manipulate people can even come from second hand commands,” she
thought, “Interesting, but who else can I
control though.”
At that point, another girl, an
eighth grader, approaches her.
“Uh what are you doing?” she asked.
“I’m watching the head-cheerleader
making a fool out of herself,” said Michelle.
“I see,” said the girl, “Where are
you supposed to be at this time?”
“Actually,” said Michelle, “I’m
trying out and just arrived. You see I had my swimsuit on for the last period
and just not got dressed.”
“Why do I not believe you?” asked
the girl.
“Oh but you do believe me,” said
Michelle.
“You are right,” said the girl, “I
do believe you. Have fun.”
A shock look came across Michelle’s
face as she just realized something. Athena was not the only one she could
manipulate.
“Wait a minute,” she said, “What’s
your name again?”
“Aphrodite,” said the girl, “I’m
actually Athena’s older cousin.”
“Wait your last name is Olym, too?”
asked Michelle.
“Sure is,” said Aphrodite, “And I’m
also the President of the Student Council.”
“Really?”
asked Michelle.
“That’s right,” she said, “Now if
you are telling me the truth about being in tryouts today, you better get in
there, you hear?”
“Sure will,” said Michelle, “Oh and
believe me I am telling you the truth.”
“I do believe you,” said Aphrodite
who then walks off.
Michelle enters the gym.
“Um sorry I’m late,” she said, “I
had to finish getting ready after gym class. You know being in the pool and
all.”
She sees Athena standing on her
hands and acting like a monkey.
“Uh what’s going on?” asked
Michelle.
“I told her what you said about
standing on her hands and acting like a monkey and she immediately got in a
hand stand and started acting like a monkey,” said the girl.
“I see,” said Michelle who was
smiling inside, “Okay, Athena, I think you need to stop doing that so this can
be over with by end of the school day because you and I still have detention at
3:30.”
“Ooh,” said the other girls.
“Shut up or none of you will make
the squad,” proclaimed Athena.
“Except for me,” said Michelle.
“Yeah, except for you,” agreed
Athena who then blinks her eyes and says, “No, you don’t make the team you
didn’t even sign up for tryouts.”
“Yes, I did,” said Michelle, “It’s
the last name on the list. Check it yourself.”
“Hand me the list,” said Athena.
Another cheerleader hands her the
list and she checks it.
“Yep,” she says, “Your name is
definitely the last one on the list.”
“So do I make the team?” asked
Michelle.
“Not yet,” said Athena, “you have to
actually try out. And a decision won’t be made until Friday. Now get in the
group so we can split you into teams to practice certain cheers and stuff.”
“Okay,” said Michelle who joins the
crowd of perspective cheerleaders.
“Okay,” said Athena, “We are going
to show you some basic cheers and stunts you have all seen us do at football
games, pep rallies and such. Then we’ll begin to help you guys do these cheers
and stunts once we divide you into teams. Each group will have 5 of you in them
and two of us. Each day we will decide who needs to come back the next day. By
Friday there should be only 12 left and from that group will come next school
year’s cheerleading squad led by me. Does everyone understand?”
Michelle and the other girls
indicate that they do.
