Bite Me v.7: Chapter One: Part 3

Minutes later; Michelle’s Bedroom …

Now where is her book bag?” she asked herself before spotting it, “Ah, found it.”

She flies over to it and uses her wand and makes it unzip and open on its own. Once opened she flies inside and searches for the folder with the form in it.

“Ah found it,” her tiny voice said very loudly.

“Huh,” said a sleepy sounding Michelle who had been sitting at her desk doing homework, “Mom, is that you?”

Ah!” screamed Mary in her head, “I’ve got to be more careful when I talk out loud in this form. Even though I’m a fairy, as the Queen I have the ability to magnify my voice to sound like I am still in human form. I have got to be more careful.”

Using this distinct skill, Mary says, “No sweetie, I don’t need anything.”

“Okay,” said Michelle thinking, “Man, I must have dosed off for a moment.”

Whew,” thought Mary, “that was close. Now to get this form out of this bag.”

She uses her wand to make the folder to come out of the bag as she herself floats out. Just as the folder is about to be completely out of the bag Michelle notices and puts it back in the bag and zips it up.

Man,” she thought, “I thought for sure this thing was zipped. If it wasn’t then I must be losing it.”

Rats,” thought Mary, “She zipped it back up but it won’t stop me.”

Using her wand she makes the bag unzip from the inside and then turns the folder invisible so Michelle can’t see it when she flies out with it again and begins to fly out with the folder following her. Once outside the room, she resumes her human form and with the folder in her hand she returns to her husband downstairs.

“I’ve got it,” said Mary, “Inside this folder is the permission form you signed to give her permission to do something she probably shouldn’t be doing.”

“Well let’s just hope it’s not permission to donate blood,” said David.

Mary opens the folder and sure enough the permission slip was inside and on top.

“Here it is,” said Mary pulling out the form, “Huh, it’s a permission slip for a field trip to a science museum. Looks like she told us the truth.”

“Really?” asked David, “Well that’s a relief. And it will be good for her to go on a field trip.”

“Well now that we’re satisfied that she is not donating blood,” said Mary, “I’ll put this back and she’ll never know we looked at it again.”

Minutes later, Michelle comes running down the stairs just as Mary returns to her chair.

“Uh, mom, dad?” asked Michelle, “Were either one of you in my room just now?”

“No,” lied Mary, “we weren’t in there.”

“Well that’s strange,” said Michelle, “I could have sworn there were two people in my room just now. I could just feel them like a sixth sense or something.”

David and Mary look at each other.

            “What’s going on?” asked Michelle.

“Should we tell her?” asked David.

“I guess she’s ready to learn the truth,” said Mary.

“Learn the truth about what?” asked Michelle.

“The truth about your heritage and what happen to your real mom,” said Mary.

“My real mom?” asked a puzzled Michelle, “but you are my real mom.”

“You don’t know how much it means to hear you say it but I am in fact not your real mom but your grandmother,” said Mary.

“And I’m your grandfather,” said David.

“What? Am I adopted or something?” asked Michelle.

            “Something like that,” said Mary.

“But what happen to my real parents?” said Michelle.

“Well…” began Mary who looked at David.

“You open this can of worms so you are going to have to be the one who eats them,” said David.

“Okay,” said Mary, “Your mom was killed by a vampire when you were just a little girl.”

“A vampire?” asked Michelle, “are you kidding me? There is no such thing as a vampires.”

“Oh but there is,” said Mary, who then stands up and presses her forehead, “Just as there are such things like fairies.”

Michelle watches in bewilderment as her mom becomes the fairy queen.

“Wow, mom,” said Michelle, “I had no idea that you were a fairy much less the fairy queen.”

“Well I haven’t always been the fairy queen,” said Mary, “The crown on my head was passed down to me from my mom who got it from her mom and it has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.”

“Wait, are you telling me that I’m the heir apparent to that crown?” asked Michelle.

“Well,” said Mary, “I guess you are since you mom is dead.”

“Is that why I have the sixth sense?” asked Michelle.

“Well there are two reasons for that,” said David, “One, your grandmother being the Fairy Queen and it being an inheritable trait and two, my ancestor is none other than the ‘Van Helsing.’”

“The ‘Van Helsing’?” asked Michelle, “I don’t understand.”

“The famous vampire slayer,” said Mary.

“Oh, him,” said Michelle, “And being that I’m what part vampire slayer and part fairy princess that is what gives me the sixth sense.”

“Actually,” said David, “the fairy part has no part in you developing a sixth sense.”

“Except the fact,” said Mary who immediately resumes human form again, “It was the Original Fairy Queen that gave Van Helsing such a skill that was passed down from generation to generation.”

“But am I not part fairy?” asked Michelle.

“No,” said Mary, “That is not something one can be born as. Fairies are made not born.”
            “Made?” asked Michelle, “by whom?”

            “Another fairy,” said Mary.

“But if  I’m the heir to the throne how do I become the Fairy Queen once you are gone?” asked Michelle, “Do I have to first be a fairy first?”

“No,” said Mary, “the moment the crown is on your head then you will become the new Fairy Queen but don’t get your hopes up of becoming the fairy queen anytime soon. Something must first happen to me in order for you to obtain the crown or I must willingly give it up to you. And I am not going to do that just yet. Not until you are ready.”

“But back to my having this sixth sense,” said Michelle, “You said it came from Van Helsing himself.”

“Well,” said David, “As it is told in my family, The Van Helsing was once a great leader in a small English village during the early Middle Ages. He was a strict leader who did not tolerate the practice of witchcraft and a lot of people were executed at the stake because of this, some of which were innocent. But despite the constant executions, witchcraft was still being practice. And was mainly the fault of one woman.”

            He looks at Mary.

“Her name was Vanessa Wickens,” said Mary continuing the story, “And she was the mother of modern day witchcraft. It is because of her witches still exist.”

“Wait what does witchcraft have to do with me having a sixth sense?” asked Michelle.

“Everything,” said Mary, “Vanessa and Van Helsing were in loved but he had no clue that she was a witch because she had him under her spell. That was until my ancestor the Original Fairy Queen broke the spell and he saw Vanessa for who she really was and had her executed along with anyone in the village who was a follower of hers.”

“But how did he get a sixth sense and how do I now have it?” asked Michelle demanding to know.

“The Fairy Queen, fearing something evil may come out of the death of Vanessa, enchanted Van Helsing with special skills and powers to combat evil,” explained Mary, “One of those skills is the ability to sense things.”

“Okay,” said Michelle, “Why did I inherited them? And did my mom also inherit them?”

“You inherited them for the same reason Van Helsing was given them,” said David, “It is your destiny to combat evil forces on this planet.”

“What kind of evil forces?” asked Michelle.
“Like vampires,” said David, “for one.”

“So Van Helsing is real and I am his descendant,” said Michelle, “I guess Victoria was right.”

“The question now is,” said David, “do you want to carry on the tradition of the family name?”

“Uh,” said Michelle, “I guess. What do I have to do?”

“First,” said David, “You need lots of training in order to horn that skill of yours. Also as you trained you will discover that it isn’t your only ability.”

“Wow,” said Michelle, “this is all just so overwhelming. I am going to have to process all of this. So, I’m going to bed.”

She stands up and walks upstairs.

“Wow,” said Mary, “that was pleasant.”

“Hopefully,” said David, “by the time I get her ready to fight vampires, she won’t be one herself or worse yet a queen.”

“I hope your right,” said Mary, “and I have a bad feeling about all of this. I don’t think that permission slip actually said what I read to you. An evil force was behind what I read. And I think that is what she felt in the room not me.”

“But didn’t she say she sense two presences in her bedroom?” asked David.

“She did,” said Mary, “And I don’t know what that second presence was but I felt it too.”

“Do you think someone could be manipulating things to make sure she becomes a vampire queen?” asked David.

“It’s what makes the most sense,” said Mary.

“But who would want our little girl to become a Vampire Queen knowing the huge consequences in that task,” said David.

            “I don’t know,” said Mary.

“Do you think we should have told her the rest of the story?” asked David.

“What about her being the daughter of two rogue vampires making her a future queen,” said Mary, “Telling her that now will more than likely guarantee that she’ll become one.”

“So do we ever tell her?” asked David.

“Not for a very long time,” said Mary.

Preview of Chapter Two:

Somewhere in the middle of town…

A puff of smoke appears and takes the form of a young girl. She enters a cave that at first is unseen by the naked eye. As she enters, she looks around in amazement as this is the first time she has seen the inside of the cave but she could not stand there for very long. Because she was being pulled further inside the cave a powerful force. A force she could not control. A force that is the very reason why she was just a pink puff of smoke. The girl was dressed in ancient Arabian garb most common for genies because that is what she was, a genie. And that force compelling her to come further into the cave was the bottle she called home.
