Well I hope everyone is enjoying my little story "Bite Me v.7. Chapter One: Part 3 will be up Friday morning. Well the title might be misleading or confusing to some so I'm going explain what it all means. I am specifically referring to TV shows that are either currently airing or have aired in let's say the last five years. Now I am not in any way an expert on the subject. I can only based my opinion on what I have read and seen. But I will give what I think are good examples or each.
Dallas: This show ran for about 13 years from the late 70s through the early 90s (pretty much my entire childhood). And it's back. How about that? Yes, Dallas is back and is focusing on the sons of Bobby and J.R. Ewing. Are they in it? Yes they are. The show has already aired two seasons on TNT and is popular enough to warrant a third. Now sadly that will be without the character of J.R. Ewing because the beloved actor Larry Hagman passed away last November and the character of J.R. was killed in the middle of the season. I'm going to miss the character when the show resumes next year but it is good even without the character. Which brings me to something I wanted to rant about. On the website for the show, people were not wanting the character to be killed off. They wanted him to just be off screen or played by someone else. I want to say with all my conviction that this is the stupidest idea ever. Larry Hagman was J.R. There is no one who can play that role. He needed to die in order for Larry to get the respect from the show, he made a hit, that he so richly deserved. Is this version of Dallas a good way to make a sequel, spin-off or remake? Yes, it is from what I have seen. I think this show is classified as a remake but I think it is more of a sequel but to put it in more specific terms it is a continuation of the original.
Hawaii-5O: This is another show that I watch. It is about to go into its fourth season. This is a prime example of a remake. The characters have same name as in the original but played by different actors. And the story lines are different as well. Is it a good example. Yes, it is.
Girl Meets World: Now this show hasn't even aired yet and won't until next year on the Disney Channel but I am so psych for it because I was a big fan of Boy Meets World and this show will focus on Cory and Topanga's daughter as she learns about life. Cory will be her history teacher and Topanga from what I understand will run a pudding shop. And the show will focus on them but more so on their daughter and son and their friends. I hear that Mr. Feeny, Cory's teacher, neighbor and mentor, will be in the first episode. I hope it is for a passing of the torch moment but I understand that he will still be in the business of educating as well. I am sure it will be a good example of sequels, spin-offs, and remakes because the executive producer was the original show's creator and that show lasted for 7 seasons. And I think this is considered a sequel much in the same way the New Leave it to Beaver was considered one too.
Well that is all I have to say. I hope you enjoy Chapter One Part 3 when it goes up. Good-bye.
