From Chapter
Two:
“Yes,” said Victoria, “go and get
blood from Michelle and put it into the girl. The more powerful a vampire
queen, she becomes the more mightily a victory it will be for me when she
falls.”
“I understand,” said Judy who fades
from sight.
Chapter Three
Michelle’s
House…
Judy fades back into sight and rings
the doorbell. Mary answers.
“Yes, what can I do for you?” asked
Mary.
“Um,” said Judy, “Yes, my name is
Judy from the Mid-town Donor Clinic and I need to see your daughter.”
“What’s this about?” asked Mary.
“Well there was a huge accident at a
Group gathering and 250 people needed blood transfusion,” explained Judy, “We
only had enough for 245 and we need some more.”
“And what does this have to do with
my daughter?” asked Mary.
“Well she was the one who supplied
us with the blood to begin with,” said Judy.
“She shouldn’t have done that,” said
Mary, “you see she has a special condition that makes it dangerous for her to
ever donate. So no she can’t give you any more.”
“Ma’am,” said Judy, “I don’t think
you understand.”
She grabs Mary by the arm and looks
her directly in the eyes.
“This is very important and a little
girl’s life hangs in the balance and you want to do anything you can to save
that girl’s life,” said Judy.
Mary just stares at her.
“Perhaps you didn’t understand me,”
said Mary who touches her forehead and thinks to herself, “become the Fairy Queen.”
She transforms much to the delight
of Judy.
“You are not getting my daughter’s
blood vampire,” said Mary in her fairy form, “Do you understand me?”
“Do you really expect me to come
here wanting Michelle’s blood and not be prepared for this?” asked Judy.
“And just how do you plan on
entering the house without an invitation?” asked Mary.
“Simple,” said Judy, “By just
walking in.”
She takes her hand snaps Mary’s
small body away causing her to fly backwards into the house and hitting a wall.
It knocks her out. The noise catches Michelle’s attention and she comes running
down the stairs and sees Judy standing there and then she sees her mom on the
floor.
“Oh no mom!” she cries out as she
runs over to her and picks her up, “Hey aren’t you a nurse?”
“Yes I am,” said Judy.
“Can you help my mom?” asked
Michelle, “She’s injured.”
“Sure if you will invite me in,”
said Judy, “It just so happens I am specifically trained to treat the
supernatural.”
“Then please come in,” said
Michelle.
Judy walks in the house and over to
where Michelle was down on her knees.
“Ah,” said Judy, “looks to me like
she is just unconscious. It won’t last long. With fairies it never does. Just
lay her back on the floor and I promise you she will be fine.”
Michelle does as she is told.
“Now for why I came to see you,”
said Judy.
“Wait, you came to see me?” asked
Michelle.
“That’s right,” said Judy, “I need
to collect some more blood from you. There was a big accident tonight and the
blood you gave today saved the lives of a lot of people. But we ran out. I need
another sample from you in order to save this little girl’s life.”
“Oh,” said Michelle, “It was a
little girl?”
“Yes,” lied Judy, “And she is dying
rapidly as we speak. Will you do this?”
“Yes, I will,” said Michelle
“without hesitation.”
“Then please put out your arm so I may draw the blood,” requested Judy.
Michelle does as she is instructed.
And Judy proceeds to draw her blood. When she is done, she puts the bag away
and proceeds to leave just as Mary comes to. She flies up and sees Judy in the
house and then she sees Michelle and she knew only one thing could have happen.
But that didn’t matter now. She knows she has to stop Judy from getting that
blood to its destination or there would be trouble. Judy just ignores her and
focuses her attention on Michelle.
“Thank-you for your help,” said
Judy, “You have no idea how much this will help me.”
“You are welcome,” said Michelle.
She exits the house just as Mary
pursues her with her wand in hand. She flings fairy dust at the vampire hoping
to freeze her in one spot long enough for her to put a stake in her heart.
“Mom,” said Michelle as she watches
this in horror, “what’s going on?”
“That is a vampire, Michelle,” said
Mary, “Quickly, look in the top drawer under the window. There is a stake in
it. Get it and come here.”
Michelle goes and gets the stake and
comes to where her mom told her too.
“Now drive it into her heart before
she manages to escape my hold on her,” instructed Mary.
Michelle walks over to Judy and is
about to lunge the stake into her heart when suddenly she can’t bring herself
to do it.
“You
don’t want to do that to me do you Michelle?” asked Judy using telepathy
“No,” said Michelle, “I don’t, but I
don’t know why?”
“Good,
now drop the stake and grab the fairy,” instructed Judy.
Michelle does as she is told.
Grabbing Mary broke her concentration and Judy managed to break free from the
spell and vanish away from sight. She had Michelle’s blood with her.
When she was gone, Michelle let go
of Mary who rose up into the air and then resumed her human form.
“Mom?” asked Michelle, “What just
happen here? Why did I let that vampire go?”
“Compulsion,” answered Mary, “It is
a trick vampires use to get humans to bend to their will. Vervain is the only
thing that can counter the compulsion. The only problem is you are allergic to
it.”
“Why am I allergic to it?” asked
Michelle.
“It’s because of your blood,” said
Mary, “It has an antibody in it that fights the protective agents in vervain
thus making it ineffective.”
“But how does that make me allergic
to it?” asked Michelle.
“Because when the vervain enters
your body and it is attack by your blood’s antibodies,” explains Mary, “side
effects occur in your body that includes short-term sickness.”
“I see,” said Michelle, “Uh, when is
daddy coming home?”
“I don’t know,” said Mary, “Whenever
he gets these tips; he’s usually out all night.”
“Since I have Van Helsing blood in
me,” said Michelle, “Will I ever be allowed to go on these vampire hunting
expeditions?”
“Are you really interested in
hunting vampires?’ asked Mary.
“I think so,” said Michelle.
“Well then,” said Mary, “I’ll talk
it over with David when he gets home and see if he thinks you are ready to
begin your training. Oh and you can’t not even begin to guess how proud I am to
hear you say you want to slay those monsters.”
“Did mom not want to do it and that
is what got her killed?” asked Michelle.
“Something like that,” said Mary,
“She didn’t want to be a slayer and we kind of pushed her into it. And she
rebelled and started to feel sorry for some of the vampires she had to kill
because they were teenagers like her. And one of the teenage vampires returned
the favor by killing her.”
“That was sad,” said Michelle, “How
old was I then?”
“You were uh,” said Mary, “Old
enough.”
At this point David comes through
the still opened door.
“Uh why is the door open?” he asked.
“We had a run in with a vampire,”
explains Mary.
“You didn’t invite him in did you?”
asked David.
“It was a her and yes we did,” said
Michelle.
“What did she do to you?” asked
David, “Did she drink any of your blood?”
“No,” said Mary, “I managed to go
into fairy mode and freeze her in one spot long enough for her to be slayed
but…”
“I was unfortunately compelled by
her not to and she got away,” said Michelle continuing Mary’s sentence, “And
she took blood from me also just as she did today at school.”
“Wait a minute,” said David, “You
donated blood at school knowing we didn’t want you to?”
Michelle nods her head.
“David,” said Mary, “something good
did come from this.”
“What?” asked David.
“Michelle actually wants to be
trained to be a vampire slayer,” said Mary.
“Is this true sweetheart?” asked
David.
“Yes, daddy,” said Michelle, “It
is.”
“Okay,” said David, “I begin
training you in the morning. Beware the training begins at 5:00 sharp.”
“5:00 sharp,” repeated Michelle,
“See you tomorrow afternoon. I’m going to bed.”
“Uh Michelle,” said David, “I didn’t
mean 5:00 in the afternoon. I meant 5:00 in the morning.”
“Oh!” said Michelle, “Okay, I’ll see
you at 5:00 in the morning. But I’m
still going to bed.”
She runs upstairs.
“So,” said David, “How much did you
have to tell her about her past now that the vampire took her blood?”
“I didn’t tell her anything about
her past,” said Mary, “I actually didn’t have to say anything about her not
giving any blood and why. But I did have to swerve her questions about how she
was compelled to let the vampire go and why she couldn’t be protected like most
humans could.”
“Because she can’t have vervain in
her system because it will seriously harm her,” said David.
“Exactly,” said Mary, “I just told her it was an allergy and that was something she seemed to accept.”
