A Review of Man of Steel

Okay, I went to see Man of Steel this afternoon. (Please be warned that some of what I am going to say will contain spoilers. On the account I am new to writing reviews I don't know exactly how to word it where spoilers won't be given so beware when you read this and come across one you were warned.) I thought it was a very good movie. There wasn't anything about it I don't like. However, that can't be all I'm going to say about it. This is as review after all. So what can I say.

Well, the opening scene on Krypton took too long. It wasn't to about an hour into the movie before we even see Clark. And the movie was about him not Krypton. But it was important to the story and so I didn't mind it too much. I haven't seen too many reviews of the movie. I might now when I can now that I have actually seen it but from what I have read the reviewers aren't liking the movie and some are insulting those that do like it. I have only one thing to say to them. Stop it. Just because you don't like a movie doesn't mean everyone has to hate it. One's opinion about something should be made on their own and not be placed on them by someone else. The movie was good but that is just my opinion.

Okay I also really liked his interaction with Lois. He immediately embraces her friendship and she actually helps him save her people. That is a good thing. I'm a writer and I think in a lot of my projects I focus more on story than I do characters but sometimes when this is the case good characterization can occur from good plot. The plot needed Lois to assist Clark and that helps their bond grow.

At the very end when he takes on a job at the Daily Planet, I think she recognizes him. Not to mention I believe she calls him Clark at one point in the movie but I am not sure about that.  The battle with Zod was excellent. I hate that he had to kill Zod but if there is a sequel then it will be this instance that will allow him to with straint himself from using his full strength when he fights in the future.

Well that is all I have to say about the movie. I enjoyed it and if I was to give it a rating I would if it 5 out of 5 points. How does it compare to past Superman films? It is never going to surpass the two movies but it is better than Returns and maybe better than 3 and 4 (I have only vague memories of them so I can't say for sure but I will watch them one day and then post a review of them).

Now this is the first review I have done period on anything. And I plan on doing more. I have ideas on what I want to review but I don't want to restrict my reviews to just my idea. If you have any ideas of movies to review please let me know in the comment section. I will review just about anything Superhero related. I will also reviews past and present TV programs. But please note that there are shows and movies I will not review and if one is suggested I will post on why I will not review it. I do want ideas on what to review but I have a particular taste in what I like to watch. And those programs that I don't have a taste or desire to watch I will not watch them just to review them.

And one more thing about the movie, Clark actually goes to a church for advise and Jesus is actually shown in the background. A lot can be compared between Clark and the Lord but I think it really says something about the character when he knows to turn to God for help in making the tough decisions he needs to make. And the priest (or preacher; I'm not really sure what he was) gave him advise on to just have faith and I think Clark demonstrated his faith in the human race by turning himself in and then beating Zod.

Well that for sure is the last thing I have to say.

  1. good review. Shaun and I hope to watch it but not sure if we'll make it in time before it's out the theaters....
I suggest you watch and review Lone Ranger. I want to see it, but I've heard mixed things. Some (who are of the younger generations and didn't grow up watching lone ranger) think it is a great movie! Best they've seen in a long while. The older generations think it is gruesome and just not that great or how they remember with what they grew up with. Watch it and let us know your thoughts on it.....

  2. This is actually a movie I most definitely will not be going to see. I loved the Lone Ranger growing up but this movie from previews just does not set right with me. Include me in the older generation opinion without having seen it because it just doesn't appeal to me. I might go see it or I might wait until its on DVD but I'm not going to promise I will because I really have no interest to just based on the previews I have seen. Sorry.

  3. My cousin and I both liked Man of Steel but our husbands did not. They were all about Superman wouldn't do this or that. We just enjoyed the story. I thought that you were going to be the same way since I know you have been a fan so it was refreshing to see that you enjoyed it and didn't overly criticize it. Good Job I really liked this review!
