After going into a trance, Michelle
began to speak out loud attracting attention.
“Young lady,” said a man passing by,
“is something wrong?”
“You are until you wake up,” said
Michelle.
“What does that mean?” asked the
man.
“Once you do you will be able to go
on with your lives. In 12 hours, though you will need to feed on someone in
order to complete the transition,” she continues.
“I don’t understand what you are
talking about,” said the man, “What is your name?”
“Do you understand what I have told
you?” she asked.
“I just said I didn’t understand,”
said the man, “are you not listening to me?”
“Good,” said Michelle, “see you
soon.”
“Alright young lady,” said the man,
“I’m calling the cops.”
Michelle suddenly comes out of a
trance.
“Huh?” she asked, “What just
happen?”
“You were speaking very irrationally
and were unresponsive to what I was saying,” said the man, “so I threaten to
call the cops and now you’re talking normal.”
“Do you remember anything that I
said when I was out of it?” asked Michelle.
“You said something like ‘you are
until you wake up.’ And ‘Once you do you will be able to go on with your lives’
and then ‘In 12 hours, though you will need to feed on someone in order to
complete the transition.’,” he explains.
“I see,” said Michelle, who thought
to herself, “I must have had a blackout
triggered by the deaths of someone with my blood in them. I must have been
communicating with him, her, or them. My best bet is to play it safe and act
dumb. I need to make something up to explain what happen then go home and tell
my parents.”
A quick moment of silence.
“I’m sorry,” said Michelle, “I’m
been having some medical issues that causes me to experience blackouts. That is
all that was.”
“Well then young lady,” said the
man, “I’ll go see a doctor about that immediately.”
“I will,” she said, “thank you.”
“By the way,” said the man, “Were
you at some kind of a costume party?”
“Oh no,” said Michelle, “I was in a
play last night where I played the decedent of a famous vampire slayer.”
“Oh really,” said the man, “who was
the slayer?”
“Van Helsing,” said Michelle who
then walks off.
“I
hope he buys that,” she thought to herself.
“Even
if he doesn’t,” says the voice, “You
can’t stop your destiny. You will become me.”
“You
are not going to leave me alone. Are you?” asked Michelle.
“No!
I am not,” came the reply, “Each
vampire that awakens the stronger I will be and whether you want me too or not
I will take over and your embrace of what you are will be a done deal.”
“I
won’t go down without a fight,” said Michelle.
“Good,”
said the voice, “I love a good smackdown. Especially one I’m going to win.”
Then at that very moment she began to feel pain.
“Oh no,” she whispered, “that
vampire I slayed is one of mine. And now I feel the pain from his death.”
“And
this will keep on happening until that mutiny I warned you about occurs,”
said the voice.
“No,”
thought Michelle, “That is not how it
will come to pass. I will slay every vampire in the city including those loyal
to me. And then the pain will end.”
“Do
you even know the names of the newest members of your clan?” asked the
voice.
“Who?”
she asked.
“You
know what,” said the voice, “You are
just going to have to find out for yourself.”
“Okay,”
said Michelle.
She finally arrives at home and goes
inside.
“Mom? Dad? I’m home,” said Michelle,
“Can we talk?
Her parents come to the door.
“What’s wrong?” asked David.
“I blackout again,” she said, “and
this time I was caught. I managed to talk him out of calling the police on me
but I’m not sure if he believed what I told him.”
“What did you tell him?” asked Mary.
“That I have a medical condition
that causes blackouts,” said Michelle.
“That sounds reasonable,” said
David, “I think he believed you.”
“I hope so,” said Michelle, “Is
there something you do mom that will stop the queen in me from taking over
because at least one vampire was made with my blood and I blackout which means
I was talking to that vampire that will soon wake up. And she’s certain that
vampires will continue to wake up with my blood in them and that will make her
strong enough to gain control of my body and officially make me the vampire
queen. I told her I would fight but will it be enough?”
“I don’t know,” said Mary.
“Can you not make me a fairy?” asked
Michelle, “will that not make it difficult for the vampire queen to seize
control if I had an equal force to fight her with.”
“It is forbidden for me to do that,”
said Mary, “If I make you a fairy, then it could be possible that all the
vampires in your clan could become fairies thus stripping us of our immunity to
be turned.”
“Oh,” said Michelle, “but what do I
do to stop her from taking over.”
“The only thing you can do,” said
David, “You fight. And your first battle occurs today when school begins.”
“Okay,” said Michelle, “Oh dear.
Athena and Aphrodite are going to be wondering why I didn’t asked them to join
me last night.”
“Just tell them the truth,” said
Mary, “and make them believe you.”
“That’s a good idea,” said Michelle.
Athena began to stir.
“Aphrodite?” she asked.
“Yeah,” she answered as she too
began to stir.
“Is it true?” she asked, “did we
really die and are now vampires?”
“Yeah,” said Aphrodite, “I believe
so. There just were too many vampires for us to slay and they overtook us.”
“Did we even slay one?” asked
Athena.
Aphrodite looks around to see if
there are any ashes laying around. She doesn’t see any.
“No,” she said, “We didn’t. I think
we’re screwed.”
“If what Michelle told us is true
then I guess we better do as she advised and go about our day as if it was
normal,” said Athena.
“Which means,” said Aphrodite, “we
need to get home and get ready for school. It starts in one hour.”
“Yikes!” shouted Athena, who takes off
running, “I can’t be late for my first day of 8th grade.”
Aphrodite takes off after her. They
both were unknowingly using vampire speed to get their separate homes.
“I
wander if I can even enter my home now that I’m a vampire,” she thought to
herself.
She manages to open the door but
could not pass through.
“Nope,”
she thought, “Definitely cannot enter
without an invite.”
“Hey mom,” she called.
“Yeah,” said Hera.
“Could you like uh invite me in
please,” said Athena, “I can’t enter without an invite.”
“Can’t enter without an invite?”
asked Hera, “then that means you…”
“Died?” asked Athena, “I kind of
did.”
“How?” asked Hera.
“A group of vampires,” said Athena,
“too many for me to count overwhelmed Aphrodite and I and we ended up dead from
multiple bites.”
“Aphrodite died too?” asked Hera.
“Yep,” said Athena, “and now we’re
vampires. Oh don’t worry, our queen told us to just lay low and act as if
things are the same and wait until she gathers the clan together.”
“But isn’t Michelle Van Helsing the
girl who was making you do things last spring the queen of this clan?” asked
Hera.
“Yes, she is,” said Athena, “and as
much as it pains me to say it, I need her alive now in order to live myself.”
“So what’s next?” asked Hera.
“Well when the sunsets,” said
Athena, “I need to feed on human blood in order to live.”
“Okay,” said Hera, “Well as long as
you don’t kill me, I guess you can drink mine.”
“I promise not to kill you mommy,” said
Athena, “but could you please invite me in so I can get ready for school?”
“Sure,” said Hera, “I invite you
in.”
