A Review of Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style

Well I just got through watching for I don't even know the umpteenth time a movie I really love. Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style. When I look back I think about the first time I saw it. It premiered on a night around Thanksgiving I think and we were having a huge family reunion as we did every year (and this was one the last ones we had with both of my grandparents living) and this year it was either watching this or Circus of the Stars. Guess which one won.

Now I just love this movie. I think it has a well written plot and everything comes together at the end as it should. It's what you would want in a movie of a favorite TV show in a much larger scale. Now this was a TV Movie so we are not really talking that much of a bigger scale. That being said. Let me talk about its plot. Oh wait a minute, I'm forgetting something. I gave a clue to this week's review and there weren't any comments guessing as to what it may be. Well that's okay and not important. Let me break down the clue for you in case you didn't figure it out. "It's alright to have ringing in your ear if it's what saves your life." was the clue. "It's alright..." is a part of the theme to Saved by the Bell. "ringing" is a reference to the sound a bell makes and "saves your life" is a reference to the title as well. It's really obvious if you think about it but this isn't about my clue but the movie itself so let's get started.

It starts off with the cast arriving in Hawaii. Screech is making a fool of himself; Jessie and Slater are fighting and Zack meets a girl. They then find out that Mr. Belding is there leading a group of principals (remember this it's definitely important). They go to meet Kelly's grandfather who is having financial troubles. The kids have some fun in the sun then we get other minor plot points that are significant to the main one. First, Jessie and Slater bet Lisa $50 a piece that they can go two weeks without fighting. Second, Screech finds out he's a king or at least the descendant of one and everyone meets Kelly's grandfather's attorney.

We also meet the boyfriend of the girl Zack falls hard for and that he is the son of a rich and powerful man. We find out that Screech needs to save the land of the tribe he's the leader of and we learn that Jessie can't cook. A solution is given when the gang volunteers to be the staff at the hotel to help save it and they scheme to get Mr. Belding and his group their as guests which does not please a certain businessman.

The attorney tries to trick Kelly into convincing her grandfather into selling and when that doesn't work he works it out so that the bank will foreclose on him. The kids find out that he was in cahoots with that businessman and they come up with a plan that will save the hotel and the land is saved thanks to those kids of Bayside.

There are other things that happen but all of them are part of the plot to save the hotel. There really isn't anything that happens that could have been edited out but still make the plot good. But if you watched this movie on TBS as a four-parter, rest assured there were parts edited out like Kelly decking the attorney for betraying them.

Well that is all I have to say. No clue this week. I am going to review the other Saved by the Bell movie: Wedding in Las Vegas. And if the views are up for these two weeks I might make October: "Saved by the Bell" month. But we'll see.
