Minutes later…[U1]
When Michelle looks herself in the
mirror she sees that strange version of herself once again.
“Ah!” she screamed, “It’s you!”
“Yes,” said the voice, “It is I!”
“Who are you?” asked Michelle.
“I’m you,” said the voice, “only a
more powerful version of you.”
“But you don’t really look like me,”
said Michelle, “You look like a vampire or something.”
“I am a vampire,” said the voice,
“or rather a vampire queen.”
“Wait a minute,” said Michelle,
“that doesn’t make any sense. If you are me and you’re a vampire queen then
that will mean I’m a vampire queen. But don’t be ridiculous I would have to be
born to two vampires first.”
Then she realizes something and
immediately exits the bathroom.
“Mom? Dad?” she calls.
“Yes, sweetheart?” asked Mary.
“Were my parents vampires?” asked
Michelle.
“What gives you that idea?” asked
Mary.
“Okay,” said Michelle, “this has
been going on for a while now.”
“What sweetie?” asked David.
“A lot of strange things,” said
Michelle, “I can control the actions of some of the kids at school; I’ve been
seeing a strange version of my reflection in mirrors; and just now for the
first time the reflection talked to me claiming to be both me and a vampire
queen. Not to mention all those times I woke up after a night of slaying
vampires feeling chest pains. Is it true were my parents vampires and am I a
vampire queen?”
Mary looks at David who gives her
the okay look.
“Yes, Michelle,” said Mary, “your
parents were vampires. And yes you are a vampire queen or at least now you are
anyway.”
“It happen because you gave blood
that first time to that nurse at your school,”
said David, “went that tent collapsed on those people it seriously
injured them to the point they needed blood and they got used and then when
those people died they became vampires. But not just vampires, but vampires who
are eternally loyal to you.”
“And those chest pains you have been
feeling in the mornings are the result of the vampires you slayed who had your
blood in their bodies,” said Mary, “So you were killing a part of yourself when
you stabbed them in the chest. I thought my fairy dust would make you
distinguish between those loyal to you and those not but it didn’t do the job.”
“But that may be because your
friends were helping you slay vampires,” said David, “and the reason you could
control them is because they have your blood in their bodies.”
“You know,” said Michelle, “now that
I think about it, I think they were trying to have me killed during those many
battles.”
“They probably were,” said Mary, “if
you were to die then they would be free of your control.”
“Wait if I die,” said Michelle,
“I’ll just become a regular vampire?”
“Yes,” said David, “I’m afraid you
will unless a stake is place into your heart then you will just become
immobilized like all those vampires you have slayed in the past.”
“Actually,” said Mary, “she will die
and instantly come back as a vampire and then she’ll become immobilized. But it
doesn’t matter because when the sun rises the next day…”
“I’ll become ashes and dust,” said
Michelle who sits down on the couch feeling depress, “Are you telling me that I
have to be very careful or I’ll become the very thing I hate?”
“I’m afraid so,” said Mary.
“But I’m vulnerable to everything?”
asked Michelle, “Drowning, hanging, electrocution, being stabbed, shot, neck
snapped?”
“That’s right,” said David,
“anything that can kill a human can kill you because technically you are a
human. You are not a member of the undead, you’re just one of their leaders.”
“But there is an exception to the
‘everything can kill you and turn you into a vampire’ rule,” said Mary,
“depending on the number of vampires in your clan, you can die any one of those
ways only once and still remain human. And after that you will become
invulnerable to that form of death.”
“Wait you are saying that if I were
to be stabbed I would die and come back as a vampire unless I have a lot of
vampires loyal to me?” asked Michelle.
“That’s right,” said Mary.
“I wonder how many loyal vampires I
have in my clan right now,” said Michelle, “and how can I continue slaying
vampires knowing it could hurt me the next day?”
“Well,” said David, “you might not
know how many vampires are in your clan but your vampire queen persona does.”
“My what?” asked Michelle.
“Your vampire queen persona,” said
David, “that reflection of yourself you saw in your mirror?”
“Oh her,” said Michelle, “She knows.
But won’t that mean I know?”
“Well,” said Mary, “you are a very
unique situation because your ancestor is Van Helsing. That connection causes
your mind to split you from that of the vampire queen that is in you. She has
yet to be fully awaken. In most cases, when enough vampires are in a clan the
vampire queen can take over in a snap but you have the ability all those other
girls who became queens before you didn’t.”
“What’s that?” asked Michelle.
“You can resist her control,” said
Mary, “Have you been experiencing blackouts?”
“Yeah,” said Michelle, “every now
and then I do.”
“When you experience a blackout that
is her taking over for a brief time,” said Mary, “I guess it would usually
correspond with someone either dying with your blood in them or just waking up
with your blood in them.”
“So I have a decision to make don’t
I?” asked Michelle, “I have to either decide to become the queen or continue my
duties as a slayer.”
“Yes, Michelle,” said David, “that
is exactly what you have to do?”
“Well I’m going back to my room to
think about all of this,” said Michelle.
“Wait a minute Michelle,” said Mary.
“Yes, mom?” asked Michelle.
“There is one more thing you should
know,” said Mary.
“What’s that?” asked Michelle.
“If someone were to remove your
heart while you are still alive that will also kill you and turn you into a
vampire,” said Mary, “because it is that heart that is what actually makes you
the queen. Without it you are just an ordinary vampire. Because you did come
from two vampires, and that is what gives you the vampire blood but your heart
has been pumping it since the day you were born thus making it a queen’s heart.
If it is removed, you will no longer be a queen or human.”
“I’ll instantly die and become a
vampire,” said Michelle, “Okay, I get it. May I go to my room now?”
“Yes, dear,” said David.
She exits the room.
“Well now that the cat is out of the
bag,” said David, “what should we do now?”
“Find out how many people out there
have her blood in them and make sure they do not become vampires,” said Mary.
“How do you propose making that
happen?” asked David.
“By turning them to stone,” said
Mary.
“Isn’t that what your sister did to
you?” asked David.
“It is,” said Mary, “but I don’t see
where I have much choice. Once they are all stone statues, I’ll have them
placed in coffins and in the cave below this house and I’ll see the cave so she
can’t ever enter it.”
“Won’t turning them to stone kill
them and make them vampires if it is reversed?” asked David.
“Yes, it will,” said Mary.
“And with them technically dead
won’t that make Michelle stronger as a vampire queen?” asked David.
“It might,” said Mary, “it’s not
something that has been done before so I don’t know what consequences if any
will occur as the result of it. So I have to try.”
“Well,” said David, “I have an idea
on how you can experiment to see if this will work.”
“How is that?” asked Mary.
“Tonight,” said David, “we’re going
to a bar.”
“Uh, Michelle is too young for
that,” said Mary.
“She’s also too young to be out
hunting vampires every night but she is,” said David, “besides it’s just going
to be the two of us.”
“What kind of bar are we talking
about?” asked Mary.
“A blood bar,” said David.
“Uh,” said Mary, “I’m not allowed to
enter a blood bar. It’s forbidden for a fairy to do so. I know because I made
the rule myself and I can’t be breaking my own rules.”
“Are you allowed to enter in your
fairy form while invisible?” asked David.
“Yes, I can but only for
emergencies,” said Mary.
“Well then there is going to be
several emergencies occurring at the blood bar tonight and they will all need
the Fairy Queen to fix it,” said David, “trust me dear. It will all work out
according to my plan.”
